This Week a Customer Asks About Any Risks Involved in a Waterless Car Wash

Q: Are there any risks that are involved in using a waterless car wash on my car?

A: The short answer to this is, no, there aren’t really any risks to using waterless car wash products to clean your car. In fact, what you get is quite the opposite of risks – benefits. By washing your car the waterless way you are applying coats of protective layers and waxes to your car that you could never get by using a normal soap and water wash. This not only cleans your car but protects it from becoming dirty or scratched in the future. This means that the more often you use a waterless car wash on your car, the longer and better protected it will become.

The ingredients of the waterless car wash are also non-toxic meaning that you don’t run any risk of contaminating the earth like you would with the run off and grime that comes off of a car and soaks into the earth when you wash your car with water. These things alone make the waterless car wash very safe and risk free, not just for you and your car but for the environment as well.

There are a couple things that you should keep in mind when washing your car the waterless way. A micro fiber towel is a must have item for the waterless car wash. It will keep you from using the somewhat abrasive fibers that are contained in most towels on your car’s surface. These fibers can easily put tiny scratches into your car’s surface and slowly wear away at it, even when using the waterless car wash system. If you are going to be doing it the waterless way then also make the effort to do it the right way with the micro fiber towel.

Another thing that we always tell our customers is that the waterless car wash is a common sense product. This means that even though it is extremely simple to use, you do need to use your brain a bit when it comes to the whole process. For instance if your car has caked on mud or sand or any other abrasive foreign materials covering your car then you need to get those of first, usually by spraying water on them to rinse them off. We know it is supposed to be the “waterless” car wash, but that step isn’t to wash your car, just to get the excess stuff off first. If you decide not to clear all of that extra debris off of your car first then you run the huge risk of rubbing it right into your paint job creating lasting damage.

So in closing, the waterless car wash is extremely safe and risk free for you and your car. As long as you remember to always use a micro fiber towel when washing your car and to clean off any heavy build up of mud or grime before applying the solution you will be just fine.

The Importance of Microfiber Towels Explained

Q: Is the microfiber towel really essential to a waterless car wash?

A: The good thing for you is not many tools or products are required at all for a waterless car wash. Of course you are going to need one of the many products from Freedom Waterless Car Wash but the next most important tool that you need is definitely a microfiber towel.

Some people make the mistake of trying to use a regular towel to perform a waterless car wash on their car. While this may appear to them to be cleaning their car, a regular towel can actually do real damage to your paint job. You may not be able to see it with the naked eye but a regular towel over time will deteriorate the paint on your car leaving you with a result that you never intended. A microfiber towel will never present you with that sort of problem.

To understand microfiber towels you first need to be able to understand what people mean when they refer to microfiber. In scientific terms, microfiber refers to synthetic fibers that measure less than one denier. Commonly microfiber towels are made from polyesters, polyamides (which can include nylon, Kevlar, nomex or trogamide) or a combination of the two.

Characteristics of a microfiber towel would be that the towel is very soft to the touch and is able to hold its shape very well. The technique of weaving the materials together in just the right way results in a product that is vastly superior to other sorts of materials for cleaning surfaces especially cars. If your car could talk and you asked it to tell you the difference between the feeling of being wiped down by a microfiber towel and a regular towel your car’s answer might surprise you. It might say that being wiped down with a microfiber towel is akin to being wiped down with silk while the regular towel feels more like a rough sandpaper.

Another amazing feature of a microfiber towel is that it is able to hold up to eight times its own weight in water. This might not seem important as this is a waterless car wash we are talking about but that means it can much more easily absorb the waterless car wash solution allowing you to conserve the product in a much more efficient way.

It is no wonder that microfiber towels have become the standard in car wash and car detail shops all over the world, whether they use a waterless system or not. There is literally no better choice for a towel to use on your car than a microfiber towel and your car will thank you for it. It is recommended that when using a microfiber towel you use one for the application of the waterless car wash solution and then a second one to wipe it off.

To make things simpler, Freedom sells microfiber towels on their site so next time you go to check out you can add a few into your cart as you make your next purchase of the waterless car wash products.

Is There a Better Freedom Product to be Used on Older Cars?

Q: I have one older car and one newer car. Can I use the same Freedom products on both cars? If not, which one is best for each?

A: Technically, you could certainly use the same Freedom products on both cars without doing any harm to your vehicle. Freedom products do not contain anything harmful or corrosive for your car so you can feel safe using any product. There are however some products that are better designed for a specific purpose and we feel that we should explain that a little bit better.

If you have an older car then definitely the best choice for you is going to be the Freedom Original Formula. This formula has double the wax as well as a light abrasive included. This combination works really well not only to wash your car but also to bring back some of the shine that has been lost over the years. It is also better at filling in scratches that may have developed as they happen to do with the older vehicles.  Even though any of the Freedom products will work great on your car, if you have a car that is an older model then you should really consider using the Freedom Original Formula as it will do the best job at protecting your car from further wear and tear and really bring out that shine that you thought was lost.

If your car is much newer then you will really benefit from using the Freedom ONE Waterless Car Wash. This is a special water-based product that contains premium soaps, surfactants and lubricating agents as well as a special polymer polish formula. When you spray Freedom ONE onto your car, the soaps and special lubricants will liquefy and dissolve dirt immediately upon contact. Your micro fiber towel will work to pick up that dirt and remove it from your vehicle. The towel pulls the dirt off of the surface so as not to scratch your vehicle in the process. The second micro fiber towel will buff off the remaining polymer residue and give you that spectacular shine. This is a much better solution for newer cars if you are really looking for a long lasting shine and great protection against future abrasions or other common nasties that happen to your car’s surface during normal driving.

There is a Freedom product out there for every situation!

How Does a Waterless Car Wash Work on My Car’s Surface?

Many people when hearing about a waterless car wash are instantly intrigued but not knowing much about it they instantly wonder just what the mix of ingredients is going to actually do to their car’s surface. To understand this all a little better you will need to know a bit more about what layers exist on your car’s surface and right beneath them.

The base layer of your care is the actual body panel and above that you will find the primer coat. Next comes the paint which is protected by the clear coat. The clear coat is the basic protection for the paint of your car and if the clear coat is compromised then you can start to see deterioration of your paint job.

The problem is things like acid rain can wear away at your clear coat and scratches and swirls can leave parts of your clear coat opening allowing things like overspray, road pollutants, brake dust, tar and industrial pollutants to work their way in there and start wreaking some real havoc on your paint. This is the part where a waterless car wash can come in and not only clean your car but leave it much more well protected when compared to a traditional car wash.

The first wipe down with a waterless car wash is going to come in and lift all of those bad things right off of your car. Waterless car wash products are common sense products however. If you have excess dirt and grime on the car then gently remove it first, rubbing things like that into your car’s surface is only going to do more damage than good. When your car is free of visible dirt and grime then you can go ahead and give it a wipe down and get all of the overspray, road pollutants and industrial pollution remnants off of your car.

After that, using a product like the Complete Clean is a great way to really give your car’s paint surface some lasting protection. Wiping and rubbing the second layer on is going to seal and protect damaged areas from acid rain as well as filling and smoothing areas with swirls and scratches.

This combination of products will give your car a great clean and shine as well as protecting it from getting harmful pollutants into the surface again which are notorious for eating away at the paint jobs of even the best cars. As you can see not only is a waterless car wash quicker, easier and less involved than a traditional soap and water car wash but it leaves your car with a lasting shine and protection that you can really feel confident about.

What is waterless wash?

What is Waterless Car Wash?

Definition borrowed from Wikipedia.com

A. A technique used to wash a vehicle without the use of water (also called a waterless car wash). This technique uses a product that contains many different ingredients, including wetting agents , lubricants and protectants. The detergents and wetting agents in the product combine to soften and emulsify surface grime, while a specific blend of fluids and lubricants attach a microscopic layer of protectant to the surface. The protectant is often an extremely rare (and expensive) substance which provides a bonded layer of protection against any remaining abrasive not broken down by the detergents and wetting agents.

The protectant often contains extensive cross linked polymers , which make it extremely effective as a car wax or glaze . The product often contains a complex mixture of cleaning elements along with the glaze ingredients.

With proper application, the product lifts dirt from the vehicle by emulsification. The product surrounds dirt molecules, lifting them from the paint surface, before you start to wipe. At the same time, the application process initiates the cross chain polymer linking process that results in an extremely shiny, highly protective glaze finish. All this happens very rapidly due to the balance of ingredients within the product itself.

The application process does not involve high pressure nor extensive rubbing. The application process also does not require “soaking” – using a high volume of product. When used in compliance with its “directions for use,” the vehicle will shine and water will bead on it.
